Social Media Icons for websites
Production Notes
I'm posting these so I can use the URLs of the images on other pages I manage. (And I do manage a few.)
It's so much easier to set these up when you manage your own URLs. When you write the code for a page, you can just reference the existing URL. No pesky file uploads to worry about! Just the easy image source code: img src="http://example.com"
Not code savvy? No problem. Many web page services (Google Blogs, WordPress, Facebook) take the work out of writing code. They simply ask you for the URL and take care of the tough stuff for you.
The easiest way to get a URL for an image is to upload it to your web site or blog (like this one) or some other online photo service. (You could use Facebook, Shutterfly, or Flickr - to name a few.)
Once you post an image on a website, you can easily obtain the URL. If you've never done it before, try it here. Click on these images and they will open up in a new web page. That's the URL of the image and you can copy it.
Not everyone has their websites set up to do this, creating a new page for the image. (I use a piece of HTML code to do it: target="blank") But that is no problem for you. Just right click on the image and select "properties." In that properties dialogue box you will see a URL for the image! Highlight it (or "select" it) and copy it. You can try that method with these pictures, too.
What's the downside? What is the price you pay for the efficiency of uploading an image only one time and using it all over the web? There's a big downside if the original page gets taken down. Suddenly, all the pages start looking at that URL - that address for the image - and it's no longer there.
But I plan on keeping this page here for a long time. If you enjoyed this post, I'm glad. But it is more than just a post. It is an efficiency tool for getting a job done!
